Escapee Arrested

Saskatchewan RCMP say they have arrested a man serving time for manslaughter who had escaped during a powwow.

William Berland had been on an escorted temporary pass from the Willow Cree Healing Lodge to attend the event in Duck Lake, but hadn’t been seen since Thursday night.

RCMP say Berland was taken into custody this morning without incident.

Berland, who is 22, is a first-time offender serving a sentence of five and a half years.

The Correctional Service says it will review the circumstances of the escape.

Willow Cree Healing Lodge is a federally operated minimum-security institution.
