SGI officials were impressed with the results of a seatbelt wearing challenge day on the Flying Dust First Nation yesterday.
Spokesperson Treena Jarocki says between 98% and 99% of the people they stopped were wearing seatbelts, so hundreds of prizes were given away.
Jarocki says that is the highest rate among the five Meadow Lake Tribal Council First Nations they have toured in the last couple of weeks.
It’s all part of the SGI seatbelt challenge. First Nations challenge each other to see who has the highest percentage of people wearing seatbelts.
SGI representatives are at the Island Lake First Nation today.
Judy Bear, the project co-ordinator at Flying Dust, hopes her community will win the $50,000 first prize for road safety improvement, which will be given out in September.
