Northern residents south of the Churchill River can expect to smell smoke this week.
A provincial duty officer with Saskatchewan Environment says 116 forest fires are currently burning in the province’s north.
Brent Krayetski says the province has already surpassed the 10-year average for wildfires, as well as last year’s total.
He notes 40 Type 1 firefighters have been called in from out-of-province to help put them out.
Krayetski adds eight new fires started in the La Ronge area alone on Monday.
