A funeral is taking place today for a former chief of the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.

The late Henry Daniels is being laid to rest today at the Sturgeon Lake West Central Cemetery.

A chief for many years, Daniels was also a vice-chief at the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nation.

Ron Michel of the Prince Albert Grand Council is one of the many dignitaries attending today’s service.

He says Daniels gave everything he had for his community.

Michel adds the late chief courageously battled diabetes for many years.
