The condition of Highway 123 has become an annual concern for the residents of Cumberland House.
Now their mayor says people are sick and tired of paying out of their own pockets for maintenance of their vehicles driving over the number of potholes.
Mayor Andy McKay says there is also a safety concern because the road, Highway 123 which is the only road into the community, is in “deplorable” shape, as it is every spring and fall.
McKay says a letter was written to the Ministry of Highways around three weeks ago, requesting a meeting, but there has been no response so far.
McKay says leadership from the area including mayor and council, chief and council, and a representative from the Metis Nation would like to travel to Regina
and meet with Highways in hopes of getting a better base for the road and eventually pavement.
