First Nations people are being charged for hunting and gathering on traditional lands.
That’s according to Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations Vice-Chief Lyle Whitefish, who spoke at yesterday’s FSIN assembly in Regina.
Whitefish says he has met with representatives of Saskatchewan Environment to discuss better communication between conservations officers and First Nations.
He says he would like to see the officers meet with First Nations to explain laws and guidelines around hunting and fishing.
Whitefish says there are also issues with conservation officers entering First Nations’ territory without permission.
