A conference for foster parents and caregivers in Indian and Child Family Services agencies in the province is providing them with training — as well as a much-needed break.

For three days this week, around 300 foster parents are learning new parenting techniques and sharing stories with each other for support.

Virgina Ledoux is with the First Nations Family Support Working Group that is putting on the Saskatoon conference.

She says foster parents have concerns about discipline, raising high-risk infants and handling stress.

Foster parent Vanessa Buchan says attending this conference provides her with a break from her busy schedule with three foster children at home.

Buchan and her husband have fostered hundreds of children over their 45 years of being foster parents.

The conference concludes tomorrow.
