Testimony has begun at the inquest into the death of a northern woman.
Court heard today from Constable Kevin Keith.
He was one of 4 officers to attend to a house in Prince Albert where the owner wanted 44-year-old Jacqueline Montgrand evicted.
Keith testified they had already been there once before during the day where they found Montgrand slightly intoxicated but friendly.
This time, however, Montgrand got into an argument with the owner in front of the officers and told them she wasn’t leaving.
After everyone left, Montgrand went to the kitchen where she sat down to tie her shoes.
Keith testified that when she stood up, she went to the sink and pulled out a knife and told Keith she wasn’t leaving.
He says she then began approaching him rapidly with the knife out in front of her.
Keith said he yelled “knife-knife!” and drew his weapon fearing for his life.
He backed up into the living room and that’s when at least one other officer shot her 4 times.
She collapsed to the floor and paramedics were called.
