James Smith Youth Given Saskatchewan Youth Award

A highly-decorated member of the James Smith Cree Nation is winning another award.
Dane Sanderson is one of six young people who will receive the Saskatchewan Youth Award.
The honour is given out to citizens aged 15 to 24 who have made significant contributions to the province through personal accomplishments and outstanding achievement.
Sanderson, who once was recognized as the top male volleyball player in the province under the age of 14, is a past winner of the SaskTel Aboriginal Achievement Award of Excellence.
He also received the highest academic average medal at St. Mary’s High School in Prince Albert.
Sanderson takes part in crystal meth awareness and gang exit programs, is a youth mentor for the West Flat Community Centre’s Leaving a Legacy Youth Project, and works with elders and at-risk youth.
After he finishes high school, Sanderson hopes to pursue a career in sports medicine.
Sanderson will receive his award on May 31st.
