La Loche Man Charged With Assaulting Baby

A 49-year-old man has made his first court appearance on charges of assaulting a baby girl in La Loche.

Richard Carlos Fontaine has been remanded until his next court appearance on August 16th.

RCMP say it was August 4th they began investigating a complaint on the Clearwater River Dene Nation.

Sgt. Paul Dawson says a two-month-old girl was then taken to hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries, and was airlifted to Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon as a precaution.

She has since been released from hospital, and put into the care of the Meadow Lake Tribal Council.

Dawson says Fontaine faces charges including aggravated assault, failing to provide the necessities of life and two breaches of recognizance.
