Officials at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary say a lockdown at the institution is still underway.

However spokesman Darcy Begrand says it could be lifted within the next few hours.

For the past 5 days staff have been searching the medium-security unit for contraband.

The maximum-security unit was unaffected, though, and has continued to operate under a normal routine.
