Man Cuts Power Lines to be Rescued

A man who’d been stranded for about a week was rescued Friday after he chopped down four power poles.

Last week a man from Wollaston Lake was boating when the weather became too bad to turn around, and he ran out of fuel.

SaskPower spokesman James Parker says the man became so desperate on Thursday that he chopped down the power lines, which disrupted power to Wollaston for 30 hours, sending SaskPower out by helicopter.

Parker says the man was found Friday around noon in pretty rough shape, after he’d spent days out in the cold with likely nothing to eat.

Parker says the line is back up but the poles will need to be repaired.

Parker says normally SaskPower tries to recoup money to cover the cost of fixing vandalism, but he says the extraordinary circumstances will be considered in this case.
