MLA Seeks Clarification On Funding For Trappers

A northern Saskatchewan MLA says he can’t get any answers from the government on what kind of funding will be provided to the province’s trappers.

Cumberland MLA Doyle Vermette says he listened to the concerns of trappers this past weekend in La Ronge at their annual convention.

Vermette says he has asked First Nations and Metis Relations Minister Bill Hutchinson what is available to trappers, but says he can’t get a straight answer from him or anyone in the ministry.

A $50,000 grant that was used for the trappers’ annual convention was cut in last month’s provincial budget.

When the budget was released, Hutchinson said the money cut would help trappers in other ways because it would be diverted to northern Enterprise Regions who could help with marketing.
