Maple Creek was not the only area recently declared a flood disaster zone by its residents.

About 200 residents on the Nekaneet First Nation near Maple Creek suffered flood damage last week, as well.

According to Chief Alice Pahtayken, basements in 10 houses were flooded, ruining washers, dryers and furnaces.

She also says their gravel road surface was washed away, making travelling difficult.

Pahtayken says the community school was available for those who needed shelter.

She says residents are mostly staying in their homes cleaning up the mess.

Pahtayken has contacted Indian Affairs for help with damages.
