New $25-Million School Unveiled In Turnor Lake

The official opening of the $25-million Birch Ridge Community School is taking place today at the Birch Narrows Dene Nation.

With the new, state-of-the-art facility, high school students will no longer have to be bussed to La Loche to attend classes.

Birch Narrows Dene Nation band councilor Ivan Morin says the school will also be the centre of many community activities.

Morin says about 250 students will be attending the new school in the upcoming year.

He adds negotiations for the new facility have been going on for over a decade.
