A new home for troubled young women in Prince Albert has officially opened.

Representatives from both the provincial and federal governments attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony today for the structure in the city’s East Flat.

Consisting of four double units and two single ones, the 10-bed home will cater to Metis girls and women aged 16 to 29 who need help in stabilizing their lives and finding education opportunities or employment.

Darlene McKay is the head of the Metis Women’s Council in Prince Albert, the group that spearheaded the project.

She says there is a huge need for transitional housing in Prince Albert.

McKay explains the clients will be allowed to stay at the house until they can move into something more permanent.
