Several northern communities stand to benefit from new social housing money announced yesterday by the government.

According to Roger Parenteau of the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, the funds will trickle to communities including Beauval, Ile a’la Crosse, La Loche, Cumberland House, Creighton and La Ronge.

He estimates just under 5 million dollars is being spent or will be spent on renovation projects designed to improve existing structures and programs.

Parenteau says the work will continue through 2011.
