New organizers should mean more participation as the second annual “The Land Heals Project” walk kicks off today in La Loche.
Last spring, founder and diabetic Nap Gardiner embarked on a diabetes awareness walk from Ile-a-la-Crosse to La Ronge.
This year, Gardiner has turned over much of the planning to the Keewatin Yatthe Regional Health Authority and the Northern Health Strategy.
The event got underway this morning at the La Loche Health Centre, and participants are scheduled to make stops in Buffalo Narrows and Beauval over the weekend before ending up in Green Lake on Sunday night.
Gardiner says that it is great to see more people joining a project he had a role in starting.
Anyone is welcome to join at any point in the walk.
The event culminates with a dinner at the Green Lake skating rink at 6:00 pm on Sunday.
