Two men have been arrested and charged following a weekend assault on an off-duty RCMP officer and his spouse in Prince Albert.

According to police, the officer clearly identified himself as a police officer while attempting to speak to a driver and passenger in a vehicle “about their driving actions” on the street near his residence at around 12:47 Sunday morning.

Two men in the vehicle then assaulted both the officer and his spouse.

Prince Albert police officers arrested the driver of the vehicle at the scene, while the passenger was later found hiding in the area by the police canine unit.

Both were arrested without incident.

The man said to be the passenger, 26-year-old Tyler Hansen of Buffalo Narrows, has been charged with assault, assaulting a police officer, aggravated assault, and three counts of breaching an undertaking.

The alleged driver, 28-year-old Blaine Natomagan of Prince Albert has been charged with assault.

Both suspects made court appearances yesterday. Hansen remains in custody, while Natomagan has since been released.

The police officer was treated in hospitals in Prince Albert and Saskatoon for non-life threatening injuries, while his spouse was not seriously injured.
