A Battlefords resident is urging First Nations and Metis people to join her in a blockade of the Battlefords bridges on June 24th.

The purpose is to protest an alleged loss of treaty rights.

Sharmaine Roy says if enough people participate, they can also block other highways that provide access to Cochin, Saskatoon and Prince Albert.

Aboriginal people blockaded the Battlefords bridges several years ago, provoking a lot of anger from motorists.

Roy says the plan is for the protest to be peaceful, but she can’t guarantee it will stay that way because she says Aboriginal people are very frustrated.
