Public Urged To Attend Event For Sex Trade Workers

An outreach worker with EGADZ is encouraging people in Saskatoon to attend its Annual Day of Mourning tomorrow in the city’s Pleasant Hill Park.
Don Meikle says the event, which pays tribute to those who have lost their lives or been affected by the sex trade, is completely planned by the youth.
He says the more people who attend it, the more it sends a message to the youth that people care.
Meikle says, unfortunately, some people in society have the attitude that these youth want to be on the streets involved in the sex trade — but he says in his 18 years in his current job he has yet to meet a sex trade worker who wants to do this, adding it’s a horrible life.
The province’s Lieutenant-Governor will be attending the event, which begins at 6:30 Saturday night.
The proceedings will include poems, songs and stories, as well as a candlelight vigil down the streets where the sex trade is most prolific.
