Regina’s Youth Theatrical Production Project is giving that city’s youth a chance to learn new skills and begin to heal.

The project is part of the All Nations Healing through Arts program.

Earlier this week, Canadian Heritage announced the federal government is supporting the project with a $40,000 grant.

The program uses professional artists and First Nations elders as mentors, while engaging them in theatre.

Facilitator Rolande Wright says the youth direct the flow of the workshops.

“They’ve created the scenes that are relevant to them, in their writing, and they’ll act out that. So whatever the youth are engaged in, (and) are interested in, is what we sit and develop with them,” Wright says.

Wright says the project is helping to bring about changes and healing in the youth.
