Saskatchewan Senator Warns About New Bill

A Liberal Senator says she worries a dangerous piece of Legislation is being rammed through Parliament.

Lillian Dyck says the Conservatives are limiting debate on Bill S-4 and that has her worried.

The bill is aimed at resolving the long-standing problem over how property is divided up among First Nations couples when their marriages break down.

For years lobby groups have complained the settlement usually favours the man while many women get left out in the cold.

Senator Dyck says the bill seems to be flawed though according to many First Nations witnesses.

Dyck says the biggest worry is that the bill could allow non-Aboriginal people to own homes and property on reserve without the blessing of the First Nation.
