A northern Saskatchewan First Nation has signed an agreement with SaskPower to move forward with feasibility studies for a proposed hydroelectric project.
The agreement between the Crown corporation and the Black Lake First Nation will see environment and engineering studies begin this month.
If it goes ahead, the project will be situated at Elizabeth Falls near Fond du Lac and would provide up to 50 megawatts of power to the provincial grid.
The government says, if the proposal proves to be an economical supply option, a contract will be negotiated where SaskPower would buy the electricity, which would then be used to power parts of the province’s north.
