Some elementary students from Saskatoon’s Silverwood Heights School have the “treaty blues”.
That’s because the Kindergarten to Grade 8 students studied the treaties, and then composed songs with blues artist Mykal Gambull based on what they had learned.
Tim Gulutzan teaches the Grade 6 class, which began looking at treaties and fairness in its social studies class.
Gulutzan says it is important students learn about treaties, not just because it is part of the curriculum.
The songs, which were performed yesterday, will be compiled in a book so other students can learn and perform them.
