SES Calls For Mapping Of Groundwater Near Oilsands

An environmental group is recommending that residents in northwest Saskatchewan have a map of where their underground water supplies come from before negotiating with Oilsands Quest.
Last month, the company applied for approval to construct a steam-assisted gravity drainage project at its Axe Lake discovery site north of La Loche.
Peter Prebble is the director of energy and water policy for the Saskatchewan Environmental Society.
He says local residents should be told where underwater aquifers are situated before any deals are hammered out.
In addition, Prebble says a land use plan should be completed so Oilsands Quest knows where it can build and where it can’t.
