An Aboriginal current affairs program in Saskatchewan has won another award — this time, for its documentary on the late David Ahenakew.

The piece was called “Ahenakew: A Man of His Words”, and aired on CTV’s Indigenous Circle.

Nelson Bird is the show’s host and producer.

He believes the documentary won the Radio Television News Directors Association’s Best Television Information Program because the documentary went beyond the evil picture many people had in their minds of who Ahenakew was.

Bird estimates Indigenous Circle has now won around 10 awards, which he believes is more than any other CTV regional program.

Bird is currently working on a documentary about suicide, which is set to air in the fall.
