A judge has reserved a decision in the appeal hearing of a case involving a northern Saskatchewan man who was shot by an RCMP officer.

It was on July 5th, 2008 that Christopher Pierre Okemau was shot twice, in the space of half a second, outside the Southend RCMP detachment — just steps away from his home — by Cst. Jasmyn Sawatzky.

According to court records, the Mountie thought that four men, who had moments earlier attacked Okemau’s wife in their home, were in imminent danger from a baseball bat Okemau had grabbed from the house.

In the end, Okemau was found not guilty of any crime.

However, the Crown has appealed that decision.

A hearing was held in Prince Albert this morning.
