The community of Stanley Mission is preparing to celebrate the 150th anniversary of its Historic Anglican Church.

On June 10th, everyone is invited to attend special celebrations that will be taking place at the Church Site.

A main stage will be set up for speeches to take place.

There will be square dancing and jigging as well as birch-bark biting and paddle making.

Church services are slated to take place from 1:30 to 2:30.

Gordon Hardlotte is a councillor with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.

He says the church has spiritual and historical ties to the community.

He notes many people still pray there, and it is one of the oldest buildings in Western Canada.

It’s also the original site of where the community once stood.
