A park showcasing First Nations culture celebrated its grand “re-opening” today.

Wanuskewin Heritage Park originally opened in 1992, but underwent major renovations starting back in 2007.

Since then it has overcome internal issues, financial issues, as well as a grass fire a couple of months ago.

Elder Barry Ahenakew says elders had a vision of what they wanted the park to be: a place of leisure.

Celebrations will continue today and the rest of the weekend.

Wanuskewin Days kick off tomorrow, culminating in National Aboriginal Day on Monday.
