West Wind Aviation Ordered To Reinstate Axed Pilot

A national union is calling on a Saskatchewan-based airline to reinstate one of its pilots.

Wally Ewanicke of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union says the unnamed pilot was fired after he told West Wind Aviation he was looking to take a job with WestJet.

Ewanicke says the pilot was only giving his employer the heads up and shouldn’t have lost his job.

He notes an arbitrator has now ordered the company to give the pilot his job back.

A West Wind Aviation spokesman says the airline is fighting the decision.

Chris Tabler says the company has applied for a judicial review of the decision.

Tabler says the arbitrator didn’t look at all the facts, and the company is simply looking out for the best interests of itself and its employees.

The Prince Albert Grand Council and Meadow Lake Tribal Council together have a 51 per cent ownership stake in West Wind.

In northern Saskatchewan, it flies under the Pronto Airways banner.
