A resident of the neighbourhood in which a woman was shot by Saskatoon police two-and-a-half years ago says she was petrified by what she saw before the shot was fired.
On December 27th, 2007, Catherine Deux says she heard some sort of screaming, which made her look out her porch window and start taking notes — something she says she does to help keep her neighbourhood safe.
She told court this morning that she saw a female police officer and another female identified as Leanne Severight, who is on trial for assault of a police officer.
Deux says Severight had her hands in the air, and she says they were open — not in a fist or holding anything — and they were flailing.
She says, at one point, Severight dropped her arms and charged forward, which is when Deux heard a gunshot.
Deux says the whole situation scared her, because she found Severight intimidating and didn’t know if the female police officer was alone or able to radio for help.
Other witnesses have testified Severight had knives in both her hands when she rushed the officers.
