The Canadian Army has organized and begun training a Ranger Patrol Group in La Ronge.
The first basic training session is on tonight and the group will graduate on November 6th.
Commanding Officer Capt. Daryl Bazin says the group is open to people between the ages of 18 and 65 who live in the La Ronge area.
Bazin says they actively recruit trappers, hunters and outfitters — people who know the land and are very comfortable in the outdoors.
He says the Rangers volunteers receive training in areas like map reading, GPS, weapons and outdoor survival.
Bazin says the Army hopes to increase the number of Canadian Rangers from 4,500 to 6,000 in the next two years.
He adds the Ranger Patrol Group in Fond du Lac has major training exercises coming up in January.
