Federal Court Dismisses Review of Mine License

A federal court has dismissed an application by the Athabasca Regional government to review the granting of an operating license for an uranium mine.

The government, composed of villages and First Nations in the Far North, wanted a review to be launched into the granting of an operating license at the McLean Lake.

The regional government felt the duty to consult process was not adequately followed in the method used to grant the license.

In particular, there were concerns about the project turning into an open-pit operation.

The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission is the group named in the review.

It’s not known if any appeals have been filed.
