Fur Auction House Cautiously Optimistic About 2011

North American Fur Auctions has released its annual wild fur forecast for trappers.

The company says it has guarded optimism that the 2011 selling season will be an improvement over 2010.

The auction house says China has become its biggest customer, by far — and the appetite for fur garments should be larger this year if both China and Russia have normal winters.

Muskrat pelts are expected to be in excellent demand this season, as the auction house is completely sold out of them.

However, beaver pelts — the staple of the Canadian fur industry — did not perform well last season, and NAFA doesn’t expect enough improvement will take place anytime soon.
