A new report has come out underlining the problems of overcrowding in Northern Saskatchewan homes.
The report was commissioned by the Conference Board of Canada.
It found that 18 percent of homes in Northern Saskatchewan have 6 or more people living in them.
The numbers come from the 2006 census.
The report’s author, Gilles Rheaume, says this is much higher than Southern Saskatchewan.
There, he says only about three percent of homes have 6 or more occupants.
Rheaume says Northern Saskatchewan ranked third in the list of homes with 6 or more occupants, Nunavut was first at 25 percent while Northern Manitoba was second with 18.
He adds it’s clear more affordable housing is needed to help curb this problem.
Rheaume adds more information on the report is available at centreforthenorth.ca
