Six members of the Standing Senate Committee on Aboriginal Peoples are currently in Saskatchewan speaking with First Nations leaders and school administrators about what works and what doesn’t in First Nations K-to-12 education.

Yesterday, they met with the two school boards in Saskatoon, as well as some chiefs.

Senator Lillian Dyck says they are hearing that more money doesn’t necessarily mean success, but working together does.

Senator Gerry St. Germain says part of the problem in the past has been schooling that is not reflective of First Nations culture.

The senators are visiting the Whitecap Dakota First Nation and Onion Lake Cree Nation today, before moving onto Alberta.

They plan to take their findings and compile a report of recommendations for the federal government.
