More than a dozen awards were handed out last night at the Women of the Dawn First Nations Awards.

A man who lost all three of his children in a car accident nearly 15 years ago and uses his grief to help others was one of the award winners.

Frank Badger’s children hit black ice and collided with another vehicle on December 21st, 1995.

He buried them the day after Christmas.

Now he and his wife do grief counselling, which he says is emotional and painful but also helpful for healing.

He reminds parents to love their children as if there is no tomorrow, because he says there might not be one.

Other award winners included PBCN Chief Darrel McCallum for arts, Cote Chief Norman Whitehawk for business,Lac La Ronge Indian Child & Family Services for social development, Janet Fox for education, Kerry Benjoe for journalism, Dawn Cheecham for justice, Dr. David Peeace for medicine, Judith Wasacase for science, Gladys Blackstar for social work, Larry Daniels for sports, Philip Favel for veterans, and Chelleah Scales for the youth.
