AFN Studying Contaminants In Traditional Food

The Assembly of First Nations is embarking on a 10-year study of contaminants in traditional foods.
Researchers have been testing foods such as wild meat, berries, rice and other vegetation.
The AFN’s regional chief for the Yukon, Eric Morris, says there is no current data on levels of contaminants — which is of concern, since many First Nations still rely on traditional foods.
Twenty-one communities in B.C. have participated over the project’s first two years.
The study has now moved to Manitoba.
Communities south of the 60th Parallel will be part of the study.
