The Mamawetan-Churchill River Regional Health Authority has developed a new suicide prevention brochure.

The initiative is part of the Suicide Prevention Framework which involves partner agencies across the province’s north.

MCRRHA director of mental health services Sharon Swan says part of the effort involves education.

Swan says it is a resource for individuals who might be contemplating suicide.

She says it is currently on the health region’s website, but will eventually be made available in waiting rooms at hospitals and clinics.

According to Swan, the health region hopes to provide workshops on suicide first aid, as well as support groups for people who have attempted suicide.

She notes studies have indicated that for every one person that has taken their life, another 100 have made an attempt.
