It will be nearly two more months before the case of a woman charged with criminal negligence causing death in the drowning death of a Saskatchewan toddler moves forward.

Preliminary hearing dates were supposed to be chosen today for Eunice Wudrich, who is charged in the death of 22-month-old Evander Lee Daniels of the Sturgeon Lake First Nation.

He was a foster child in her care when he died.

However, new rules in the court say if a hearing is set to take more than three days, there must be case management.

Wudrich’s hearing is expected to take four days.

Daniels’ father, Chris Martell, was able to attend court for the first time today.

He says Daniels was in the process of being reuinted with his family and taken out of foster care at the time of his death.

Martell also says he is only getting answers through the media or by coming to court.

He adds he has been in touch with Bob Pringle, the province’s new children’s advocate, about the case — and is optimistic he will be able to help him get some answers.

Wudrich’s case management hearing is set for the end of January.
