The Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation has released statistics on the final payments to Saskatchewan commercial fishers.

Pickerel was by far the most profitable species this year, with northern pike coming in a distant second.

The total final payment to the province’s fishers is over $119,000, with just over $100,000 of that paid for pickerel.

For pike, the total was just over $18,000.

Perch brought in a very small profit, while there was no final payment for Trout, Whitefish and other species.

The cheques are being mailed out this month.

Last year, commercial fishers received no final payment at all.
