The Merchant Law Group is filing a national class action lawsuit on behalf of First Nations people who it says have been wrongly denied Indian status.
Lawyer Tony Merchant says the courts have recognized discrimination against First Nations women, but the government has not provided compensation for lost benefits.
Merchant says the amount of money owed for things like income taxes, medical benefits and missed education funding is huge.
He says the number of people across the country who may qualify for compensation is also very large.
Merchant hopes the legal action can be organized and certified in about six-months.
