A court in Prince Albert has heard testimony from a local man accused of killing his three-year-old son.
Thirty-one-year-old Jordan Crowe sat silently this morning as court watched a videotaped statement he made to police on December 24th, 2007.
On the tape, an investigating officer, Jeff Rowden, was asking him about the death of Dilyn Donald.
Crowe said, earlier that evening, the boy’s mother was out so he decided to give Dilyn a bath.
Afterward, he said he put him to bed and went to watch television.
Crowe said he later heard banging on the wall and went back into the bedroom.
He said, this time, he put the covers over Dilyn’s head as part of a game.
Crowe said he went to leave the room, but heard a gasp.
He said he then turned on the light and saw Dilyn lying motionless with his eyes open, not breathing.
The videotaped statement to police was made in the hours following the incident.
The defence later attempted to cast doubt on the Crown’s case.
Lawyer Greg Chovin asked the lead investigative officer if there was concern about the statements given to police by the mother of the late toddler.
Jeff Rowden said he had concern while questioning the boy’s mother because she didn’t seem to be expressing very much emotion over the death of her son.
Chovin then asked Rowden if more questions would be raised if Dilyn’s injuries were sustained in a wider timeframe than the one-hour window police were focused on.
Rowden agreed certain questions would arise.
Crowe faces a charge of second-degree murder.
The trial is scheduled to last two weeks.
