Mentorship Program For At-Risk Youth Cancelled

The director of an outreach centre in Prince Albert says she is dismayed by the cancelling of a mentoring program for youth.
Dawn Robbins is the executive director of the Bernice Sayese Centre in the city’s West Flat region.
She confirms the mentorship program the centre enjoyed with the local fire department is no more.
Robbins says the initiative was cancelled after the firefighters’ union withdrew its support.
She notes the program was designed to help kids struggling with drugs or other social issues, and its loss is a severe blow.
In the program, kids would report to the fire hall once a week where they would roll hoses, clean trucks and learn other tricks of the trade.
Robbins says she is still hopeful the program might be salvaged somehow.
But she says she will need to hear something soon, as it usually begins in January.
