A community gathering was held yesterday to mark the opening of the Catharine Charles Long Term Care Home at the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
The $2.1-million facility has 10 long-term care beds.
Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says planning started twelve years ago and a special location was chosen.
The care home overlooks the lake in the Bell’s Point subdivision, and features a large visiting area, large rooms and a fireplace.
Cook-Searson says care was taken to ensure elders living there will feel comfortable.
She says they plan to serve traditional food like fish, moose, rabbit and duck.
The home will start accepting residents in January.
