A program to help older workers re-enter the workforce is now underway at Montreal Lake Cree Nation.
The Target Initiative for Older Workers includes 12 weeks of in-class learning covering a number of academic areas.
Orientation started November 15th and the classroom instruction continues until the end of March.
Band councilor Jason Ballantyne says participants will also receive practical experience through work placements, and will be able to earn some certifications.
Ballantyne says the program was developed for people over 50 years of age affected by the collapse of the forestry and fishing industries.
He says he is expecting an 80% graduation rate, and that 75% of partipants will find employment.
