RCMP Increasing Profile On Waterhen Lake Reserve

Concerns about a lack of RCMP presence on the Waterhen Lake First Nation have resulted in some action.
The band has met with Meadow Lake RCMP to voice their concerns — and the Meadow Lake detachment has made a major effort to be there more frequently, according to Sgt. Phil DeGruchy.
For example, he says an RCMP officer took part in the band’s Remembrance Day ceremonies.
DeGruchy says they also played a volleyball game against youth on the reserve, and there are plans to play a hockey game there, too.
Waterhen Lake Chief Richard Fiddler says the band hopes to set up a couple of houses so RCMP can live right on the reserve.
Fiddler notes an agreement with RCMP calls for them to be on the reserve 80% of the time.
He says until now, they’ve been on reserve less than 40% of the time.
