The RCMP is confirming details of a fatal snowmobile accident in northern Saskatchewan over the weekend.
39-year-old Donald “Dino” Bird died Saturday night in a snowmobile collision on the Anglo-Rouyen Mine trail near Stanley Mission.
The Mounties say Bird was traveling back home with friends following a fishing expedition on Sulphide Lake.
According to police, the group was traveling down a trail leading to an abandoned gold mine when he sped up and drove through a chained gate blocking the entrance into the mine.
Bird was pronounced dead on the scene.
The RCMP say the initial investigation indicates that alcohol may have been a factor.
