A trial has begun in Prince Albert for a northern Saskatchewan man accused of assaulting an off-duty RCMP officer.
Court heard the officer and his wife had just come home on June 20th when they heard a commotion on the street.
Cst. Chris Hujber, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, testified a car was squealing its tires in front of his house.
He said he then knocked on the car window.
According to Hujber, that’s when the accused, 26-year-old Tyler Hansen of Buffalo Narrows, got out and began throwing punches, yelling “Do you think you’re tough?”.
Hujber ended up with a broken ankle, bloody nose and numerous bumps and bruises.
His wife, who said she accompanied her husband to the car, testified he identified himself as a police officer.
However, the defence noted neither of the Hujbers mentioned that point on their initial statements to police.
Rather, the information came out later.
Hansen faces charges that include assaulting a police officer and aggravated assault.
The trial has been adjourned until the New Year.
